The Acase Superleggera Pro Hybrid Nexus 4 Case is a great alternative to the Commuter Series OtterBox, which is probably never getting made. Instead of wasting time begging OtterBox to take your money, here’s an awesome OtterBox Commuter Series alternative that is a lot cheaper than an OtterBox would be, and still stylish and very protective. Shout out to Stephen for sending this one in!
This case is a hybrid case, which means it consists of two different styles of case that combine to form one rugged case. A thick silicone gel wraps around your Nexus 4, and a hardened polycarbonate shell fastens over the silicone gel, creating a single case.
There are a few purposes for this setup. A polycarbonate shell by itself wouldn’t be very good at protecting from drops, as the impact would carry straight through the case and into the phone, potentially cracking the screen or causing something to get loose and eventually malfunction inside the phone. The silicone gel will absorb such impacts much more efficiently. However, a gel by itself doesn’t give good resistance versus pressure, like sitting on it or accidentally crushing it between two other big objects.
Combining both the gel and the shell, you get a complete package that can absorb drop impacts and maintain its shape if pressure is applied. You also get a very sleek-looking solution, as Acase has both Black on Black and White on Black options available. The paint used is a very high quality Japanese job as well, with the case actually being manufactured in Taiwan. These are now sold from within the US now, so you shouldn’t experience any major shipping delays.
If you want a rugged case that’s not overly big, and still good-looking, check out one of these today while they’re on sale.
